It's been ages and a day since I posted.. 5 more days until hockey 5 more days until hockey.

Aside from that, I'm alive. I'll report more later.

"I don't see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist due to the irresponsibility of its own people. The issues are much too important for the Chilean voters to be left to decide for themselves." — Henry Kissinger (~1972)

Well, after a long silence I must break it. World War III is on the breach, and surprisingly the Hitler Salute is still in vogue.

In religion and politics, people's beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second hand, and without examination.

Saddam Hussein planned to use "camels of mass destruction" as weapons to defend Iraq, loading them with bombs and directing them towards invading forces.

The animals were part of a plan to arm and equip foreign insurgents drawn up by the dictator shortly before the American-led invasion three years ago, reveals a 37-page report, captured after the fall of Baghdad and just released by the Pentagon. It is part of a cache of thousands of documents that the United States Department of Defence says it does not have the resources to translate.

A man wielding an axe has critically injured a Canadian soldier in southern Afghanistan during a meeting with tribal leaders in Kandahar.

The soldier, who had removed his helmet as a mark of respect, was repeatedly struck by an attacker who was reportedly not a council member.

Other Canadian soldiers at the meeting opened fire and killed the assailant.

WASHINGTON - In dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees, risk lives in New Orleans' Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage of the briefings.

Bush didn't ask a single question during the final government-wide briefing the day before Katrina struck on Aug. 29 but assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: "We are fully prepared."

Bush declared four days after the storm, "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees" that gushed deadly flood waters into New Orleans. But the transcripts and video show there was plenty of talk about that possibility — and Bush was worried too.

"He [Jesus] accompanied me in difficult times, in crucial moments. So Jesus Christ is no doubt a historical figure — he was someone who rebelled, an anti-imperialist guy. He confronted the Roman Empire.... Because who might think that Jesus was a capitalist? No. Judas was the capitalist, for taking the coins! Christ was a revolutionary. He confronted the religious hierarchies. He confronted the economic power of the time. He preferred death in the defense of his humanistic ideals, who fostered change.... He is our Jesus Christ."

- Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela

I've often found it funny that the Republican party has become the party of christ. I can't imagine Jesus being anything other than what today would be called a "bleeding heart liberal." Even through my militant atheism, I can see the value of the teachings Jesus was trying to give. It's unfortunate how much it's been mangled and repackaged over time. Very sad, indeed.
